Center Police make arrests after apparent armed assault attempt was thwarted
Center Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff's Office and other area law enforcement officers from Texas and Louisiana were involved in apprehending suspects sought in an apparent armed assault attempt in Center around 2 p.m. Monday.
Center Police responded to call on Kindle Street of two vehicles with several occupants with multiple weapons approaching a residence looking for a male.
An eye witness said two cars stopped with several males each carrying guns, including some that appeared to be automatic weapons, while she and others were on the front lawn at a Kindle Street residence. The witness said the person the suspects were looking for was not a resident at that home.
She said the suspects were in vehicles with Louisiana license plates and she believed they were from the Mansfield, La., area.
“They had trunks full (of guns) and every person in the cars had guns,” the witness said. “It was a dude, that don't live here, but he was here.”
The person the armed suspects were looking for ran into the residence and fled out the back door into nearby woods, she said. The witness said police were called and arrived as the suspects fled the scene in the two vehicles.
A couple of blocks away at a dead end to Sampson Street a Center Police unit had a car stopped with no suspects in sight. But later Center Police reported three suspects were detained without incident or injury.
At about 3:30 p.m., CPD officers were seen placing two black males wearing white t-shirts in handcuffs before escorting them to one of several department cars parks on Sampson Street
