Playday at Expo Center, Pics with Peter Cottontail cancelled for Saturday

Free ice cream social, Family Fun Day begins at 2 p.m. Saturday

The Order of the Eastern Star Lodge on Hwy 96 next to MidTown Marine will be hosting a free Ice Cream Social and Family Fun Day beginng at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13.

The event is open to the public and will feature homemade ice cream, board games, dominos, 42 and card games. The OES provides scholarships to local students in Timpson, Center and Martinville school districts.

 

Shelbyville VFD BBQ set Saturday

The Annual Shelbyville Volunteer Fire Department BBQ is set for 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, April 13, at the department, 140 CR 2064 in Shelbyville. Firefighters will also be raffling off two fish cookers – see any Shelbyville Firemen for tickets.

Serving will begin at 11 a.m. Cost is $8 a plate and includes a chicken leg quarter, sausage link, beans, potato salad, bread, dessert, and a drink. 

 

 

Spring Fling in downtown Joaquin

Joaquin's Spring Fling begins at 11 a.m. in downtown Joaquin.

Free pictures with the Easter Bunny, an Easter bonnet contest, games, prizes, bounce house, face painting and more.

The Easter Egg hunt begins at 1 p.m. and community churches will have booths.

Come on out for a fun day!

CANCELLED: Free photos & treats with the Easter Bunny

NOTE: Due to weather forecasts that contain predictions of thunderstorms and a 100 percent chance of rain on Saturday, this event is being cancelled. Represenatives of Badders Law Firm said they are attempting to reschedule the event and will let the public know if they are successful in renting the bunny costume for another date.

Free photos and a visit with the Easter Bunny scheduled to be hosted by Badders Law Firm and The Light and Champion from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 13, with free treats for kids and free photos taken by the newspaper to be placed on their website — lightandchampion.com – HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

 

Shop and take advantage of Easter Specials

As a part of the monthly Shop Small and Shop Local promotion, many Center boutiques and shops will be offering specials. Visit participating locations for a chance to win special discounts between April 8 and April 20.

Daughters of the Republic of Texas to elect & install officers

The William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will meet Saturday, April 13, at 10:00 AM at the Sam Samford Lodge in Center.

The chapter will elect and install officers for the 2019-2021 term. We will also discuss the upcoming 2019 DRT Convention in Austin.

If you are planning on attending the convention, fill out the registration form on the DRT web site and bring your check to the meeting so Merle can send them in together.

Shelby County Expo Center Playday cancelled

Organizers are canceling the Playday for Saturday, April 13. The situation with the weather predicted for doesn’t look safe.

We hate to cancel the Playday, but safety is a top priority. The weather this spring has been very unpredictable. We will try to reschedule this Playday. As soon as we are able to establish a makeup day, we will post it here. Thanks for your understanding. Please share and help us get the word out to everyone.

The “Ready, Set,Trot Play Day” was scheduled to open at 8 AM. Exhibitions start at 9 AM. Events begin at 10 AM.

 

Huxley Helping Hands Food Pantry set for 9 a.m. Saturday

Huxley Helping Hands food pantry will be held Saturday, April 13, 9 a.m. until food is gone. I.D. Is required and only one box per household. Distribution will be at Hillcrest Baptist Church on Hwy 96 in Center.
