VLB VOTES TO RAISE HOME LOAN LIMITS FOR TEXAS VETERANS

Maximum loan amount increased to $484,350

AUSTIN - This week, Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairman George P. Bush announced that the Texas Veterans Land board unanimously voted to raise the VLB home loan limit from its current maximum of $453,100 to $484,350.

As the Federal Veterans Administration (VA) increases home loan limits, the VLB matches the increase to ensure that the VLB keeps pace with the most current cost of housing. The Texas Veterans Land Board has increased their home loan limit from $453,100 to $484,350 resulting in a 6.91% increase compared to 2018. The Texas Veterans Land Board will have raised their limit for the 10th time in 2019 since 1983.
“The Texas Veterans Land Board looks forward to continuing to serve our Veterans with the utmost care,” said Commissioner George P. Bush. “As the number of Veterans in our great state continues to grow, our need for land and home loans will only continue to increase. It is our duty to provide our men and women who have admirably served our country with the benefits they deserve.”
To qualify, homes must meet the following requirements:

  • Home must be the veteran’s primary residence in Texas
  • Home must be a single family attached or detached home, town home or condominium
  • Duplexes or other multi-family units must have been constructed at least five years prior to the closing date of the loan
  • New homes must have either ENERGY STAR certification or HERS Index score of 75 or less
  • The home must remain as the veteran’s primary residence for at least three years, and the Veteran borrower must occupy the home within 60 days after loan closing.
  • The VLB does not offer refinancing. If you have an existing loan on your home, the VLB cannot provide refinancing to lower your interest rate, nor can the VLB home loan program be used for a down-payment on a home.

Since its founding in 1946, the VLB has been providing the strongest Veterans benefits package in the nation. The VLB provides Veterans with access to land, home and home improvement loans that allow them to own their very own piece of Texas. They also offer State Veterans Cemeteries to honor those who have served, as well as State Veterans Homes that provide affordable care in a dignified setting for Texas Veterans, their spouses and Gold Star parents.
