Shelby County Official Guide and Chamber Directory coming your way

The 2019 Shelby County Official Guide and Chamber of Commerce directory is being distributed this week in mailed home delivery/office addresses in Thursday's mail.

The directories are also included in newsrack and store sales copies of this week's Light and Champion available for 75 cents at multiple locations across Shelby County, including of course, The Light and Champion office, 137 San Augustine Street.

Included are letters of welcome from both Mayor David Chadwick and Shelby County Chamber of Commerce President Deborah Chadwick. Also included are individual community sections highlighting Huxley, Joaquin, Shelbyville, Timpson, Tenaha and Center.

The directory's cover, shown here, depicts the theme of the publication — blending Shelby County's rich history with an eye to the future along with a focus of what is going on in our communities in 2019.

Dear Reader, Welcome to the 2019 edition of the Shelby County Directory.

Whether you are new to the area or have roots in the county going back decades, we hope you find discoveries within these pages which will help you appreciate Shelby County and the unique place it holds in the world.

It does not take long for either a newcomer or long time resident to realize history runs deep within the Shelby County lines. That is a contributing factor in giving this edition a distinctly historic perspective.

While history is important so is the present and the future. Toward that end, the 2019 edition of the Shelby County Directory also highlights many of the positive changes which have taken place in the recent past while also focusing on some exciting changes coming our way.

We welcome your input and suggestions which can be made at news@lightandchampion.com or by calling (936) 598-3377.

Putting this edition has been a labor of love — we hope it is both a useful tool and a source of information which might rekindle your interest in the past while sparking your excitement for what the future of Shelby County holds.

With Deepest Regards,

Mike & Stephanie Elswick

2019 Directory Editors

About the Cover

Shelby County history blends with the present in the cover illustration of a photograph of the 1885 Historic Shelby County Courthouse with a 1950's era shot and a current photograph by Ginia Hooper. Graphic designer Patrick Brown along with Ginia Hooper and Stephanie Elswick worked to blend the two images into one to convey the theme of the 2019 Shelby County Directory — “History in the Making.”
