Local MLK Day events scheduled for Monday, Jan. 21

Center High School student Mark Perkins to speak after parade

The annual Shelby County MLK Day Celebration will be Monday, Jan. 21, according to organizers.

There will be a parade beginning at 4 p.m. on the downtown Center Square. Participants will start lining up at 3:30 p.m. The participants will exit the center of the square in front of the adult probation department and make a one quarter circle around the square and turn right onto Shelbyville Street.

From there the route will proceed down Shelbyville Street and turn right on Martin Luther King Drive and proceed all the way to the Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church where there will be a program.

The speaker will be Center High School Junior Mark Perkins.

Center City Council Woman Joyce Johnson is serving as event chairperson while Rev. Richard Edwards, pastor, is assisting.
