There's more local Christmas cheer to come - including Saturday's Santa Claus Parade in downtown Center

Santa Claus is scheduled to make a return appearance this Saturday in downtown Center as Santa's Christmas Parade gets underway at 6 p.m.

Parade Chairman Dr. Randy Collard said downtown merchants and area shopkeepers are being encouraged to stay open late to offer parade attendees extra shopping opportunities.

Joining Santa in the parade will be Dr. Jheri-Lynn McSwain serving as this year's parade grand marshal. She is the community's 2018 Distinguished Service Award recipient.

More than 20 floats will make their way through the heart of downtown to delight the young and old alike, Collard said.

The Rio Theatre will be showing a special matinee of The Grinch at 3:30 p.m. Saturday with the box office opening at 3 p.m. The Rio Theatre will also have its usual 7:30 movie showing following the parade.

Chamber officials said a special thanks goes to this year’s Presenting Sponsor, Shelby Savings Bank. Also, thank you to the City of

Center, the parade's Float Competition Sponsor; Farmers State Bank, Specter, Inc. and Tyson Foods, all SilverSponsors.

Parade winners will be announced via media on Monday, Dec. 3, officials said.
