Burn ban issued for Shelby County
Shelby County Judge Allison Harbison on Tuesday issued a burn ban for the county.
The ban prohibits or restricts outdoor burning for public safety concerns.
In Texas, local governments are empowered to take action on the behalf of those they serve. When drought conditions exist, a burn ban can be put in place by a county judge or county commissioners court prohibiting or restricting outdoor burning for public safety, according to state laws.
Shelby County joined more than 150 other counties across the state with burn bans already in place, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.
