Active Shelby County COVID-19 cases increase to 158

More than 353,000 active COVID-19 cases reported in Texas as of Tuesday afternoon

The number of active COVID-19 cases continues to rise in Shelby County with state health officials reporting 158 active county cases as of Tuesday afternoon.

DSHS reports there have been 732 confirmed cases reported in Shelby County since March with another 444 probable cases.

Confirmed cases are detected through more accurate molecular tests, while probable cases are determined with rapid-result antigen tests.

There have been 41 fatalities of Shelby County residents attributed to COVID-19, DSHS reported Tuesday. There have been an estimated 977 victim recoveries of Shelby County residents, officials reported.

Across Texas, DSHS reported 353,664 active confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday, Jan. 12. That figure was up by 22,110 from Monday's numbers.

The number of Texans whose deaths were attributed to COVID-19 topped the 30,000 mark with the 286 new fatalities reported Tuesday. There have now been 30,219 Texans die with COVID-19 attributed for the deaths, DSHS reported Tuesday.

The number of confirmed cases in Texas stood at 1,753,059 as of Tuesday afternoon's DSHS report. Officials said there have been 242,233 probable cases with 3,191 new probable cases added to the state's tally on Tuesday.

DSHS estimated there have been 1,595,600 victim recoveries of Texas COVID-19 victims.
