TUESDAY UPDATE: Shelby County's cumulative total of COVID-19 cases hit the 300 mark
Six additional confirmed cases of COVID-19/coronavirus have been added to Shelby County's cumulative total, Texas Department of State Health Services officials reported to the county.
Kerri Shofner, coordinator of Shelby County's Emergency Management Office, on Tuesday morning said those regional officials also reported six additional local COVID-19 victim recoveries bringing the total recoveries in the county to 252 while they said there have been 300 cumulative cases.
Shelby County has 34 residents classified as having active COVID-19 symptoms according to data shared by regional DSHS officials, she said. There have been 14 deaths of Shelby County residents attributed to the pandemic, she said.
As has often happened during the tallying of data during the coronavirus era, the figures released to local officials differ from the numbers the DSHS posts daily on its website. As of late Monday afternoon, the DSHS dashboard showed 303 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Shelby County.
The state site also showed 14 fewer active cases Monday afternoon than regional officials reported. The state dashboard showed only 20 active cases in Shelby County.
The state dashboard contains this disclaimer regarding the active case count: “County estimates do not sum to statewide estimated number of active cases posted on this website, as the statewide total estimates the number for all counties for the current day. Negative active case values at the county level are converted to zero when total cases are less than the sum of total fatalities and recovered.”
Statewide health officials on Monday reported 5,655 new COVID-19 cases with a cumulative total of 264,313 cases. DSHS reported there have been 3,235 fatalities attributed to COVID-19 with an estimated 124,659 active cases as of Monday.
