TUESDAY UPDATE: Shelby county victim recoveries jump by 33 % in past week

Active cases in Shelby County drop from 69 a week ago to 46 on Tuesday

State health officials had more good news for Shelby County on the COVID-19/coronavirus front on Tuesday when they reported 135 Shelby County victims have recovered.

That represented more than a 33 percent increase in local recovered victims from a week ago when Texas Department of State Health Services reported 101 Shelby County victim recoveries on May 19. Also on Tuesday's DSHS report, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the county had dropped by about the same percentage, from 69 active Shelby County cases on May 19 to only 46 on Tuesday of this week, representing a decrease of 23 active cases.

The number of COVID-19/coronavirus confirmed cases in Shelby County meanwhile has increased from 175 cases a week ago to 183 on Tuesday of this week. DSHS earlier reported the number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 had increased by one in recent days to six.

With 135 recoveries, 46 active cases and six deaths adds up to 187 cumulative cases, resulting in a discrepancy of four cases unaccounted for between the total DSHS reported of 183 and the combination of confirmed, active and recoveries as of Tuesday.

Through May 22, officials report there have been 726 cumulative tests given to Shelby County residents.
