TUESDAY UPDATE: Shelby County confirmed cases climb to 158

DSHS reports recovered victims out number active cases 83 to 64 as of Tuesday

Shelby County's number of confirmed COVID-19 cases continued an upward trend with Tuesday's state DSHS report showing 158 cases.

The report, released about 5 p.m., showed there have been six additional cases and since Monday's state report and there have been five total COVID-19/coronavirus related deaths confirmed for Shelby County residents. The Texas Department of State Health Services reported there have been 560 COVID-19 tests given in the county.

On a positive note, officials reported 83 Shelby County victims have recovered and that there are now only 64 of those cumulative cases still classified as being active.

Panola County Judge Lee Ann Jones on Monday night reported an additional five positive cases of the COVID-19 virus have been confirmed in Panola County from numbers provided earlier

“These five resulted out of our two-day test period held recently” when the state's Military Testing Team was in Carthage last week, she said. That pushed Panola County's total of locally confirmed cases to 170. That figure was considerably higher than the 146 confirmed county cases the state DSHS dashboard was showing late Tuesday afternoon.

One additional recovery was confirmed of a Panola County victim, Jones said. The state was reporting eight Panola County deaths have been confirmed as being related to COVID-19.

Nacogdoches County officials on Monday evening said DSHS reported another 11 cases in Nacogdoches County.

“Additionally, one case reported on May 6 (50-59 yr old female, LTC) has since been identified as a resident of another county and has been removed from our total count,” according to the Nacogdoches County Office of Emergency Management.
According to figures provided locally Nacogdoches County has 217 confirmed positive cases. That figure was less than the 221 confirmed cases the state was reporting late Tuesday afternoon.
Officials said 10 of Monday night's cases are related to long term care facilities, they include:
60-69 Female
80-89 Female
80-89 Male
90+ Female
80-89 Female
60-69 Female
50-59 Male

The remaining case is a 70-79 Female with an unknown exposure source.

EDITOR'S NOTE: As we've been attempting to point out over several weeks of reporting on the COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic, there have been discrepancies between the figures local officials are passing along and those which the Texas DSHS reports daily. We have tried to point out those differences because we realize they can be confusing, especially when the differences vary greatly. But we feel the public needs to know what information health officials are sharing.
