Town and Country Real Estate expands into Louisiana
Town and Country Real Estate owner/broker Jodi Fountain said she saw an opportunity and has been working to meet a need in the region's real estate market.
More than a year's worth of research, work, planning, studying, testing and marketing was celebrated last week as Fountain announced expansion of the agency's footprint across state lines into Louisiana. The lunch appropriately had a Mardi Gras theme with gumbo and king cake served on tables filled with Mardi Gras decorations and beads.
“Today is about being able to expand into another state,” she said. “We've been serving Texas since 1966 and just recently we acquired a license in Louisiana so we can cross the border and service clients there and help Logansport expand.”
Fountain said with Logansport, La., being right across the Sabine River from Joaquin, where Town and Country has had a strong presence for years, the expansion made lots of sense from a geographical perspective.
In order to get her real estate license in Louisiana, Fountain had to take courses specific to the laws of that state and was then tested on her expertise.
“Their laws are a lot different than Texas laws,” Fountain said. “I took the last year to take classes and make sure I was very thorough and fully understood their laws.”
With her being the broker for Town and Country Real Estate all agents working with the agency can now handle transaction in Louisiana, Fountain said.
“Logansport has a new bridge, they're sprucing up and we just want to be a part of the growth going on there,” she said. Fountain was joined by agents, family and friends for the kickoff event on Feb. 13.
In honor of the occasion, her husband, Ray Fountain, cooked up a big pot of chicken and sausage gumbo.
She said there are no local real estate firms serving the Logansport area with agencies from Mansfield or the Shreveport area.
“For us, we're just 15 minutes away,” Fountain said. With the new bridge across the river finished, she said traffic flow between Texas and Louisiana has been greatly enhanced activity.
“Shelby County provides a lot of support for Logansport,” Fountain said. “A lot of people from there come over here to shop and vice-versa.”
She also said financial institutions in Shelby County are already familiar with financing property across the state line.
“Banks here like to finance over there,” Fountain said. She has been with the agency for 17 years and took over as broker/owner in September 2016.
