THURSDAY UPDATE: COVID-19 victim recoveries continue to outpace active cases, 88-to-70

Number of Shelby County active coronavirus cases rise to 167

Shelby County's number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by four on Thursday's report provided by state health officials to 167 cases.

While the number of cases rose, do did the number of local victims who have recovered. That figure climbed by one to 88 recovered Shelby County victims on Thursday, according to the state's Department of State Health Services.

That compares with 70 cases now considered active. The recovered 88 cases, 70 active cases and five deaths total 158 cumulative cases — leaving the status of nine cases unaccounted for.

DSHS officials said there have been 583 tests for COVID-19 given to Shelby County residents. Starting on Friday, Center's Walmart will be offering drive-through testing from 7-9 a.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

DSHS reported several new cases in Nacogdoches County for a total of 227 cumulative cases there, according to the Thursday afternoon DSHS report. Nacogdoches County has had 1,201 tests given to county residents and currently has 114 victims classified as being recovered and 101 active cases.

There have been nine COVID-19 deaths in Nacogdoches County.

Panola County also saw an increase in confirmed cases on Thursday with 155 and eight deaths, according to DSHS. The agency said Panola County has had 65 victims recover and has 76 active cases.

Statewide in Texas on Wednesday, officials were reporting more than 1,400 additional cases as testing continues to ramp up. On Wednesday the state tallied 42,403 confirmed COVID-19 cases, by Thursday that figure jumped by 1,448 to 43,851.

There have now been 1,216 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the state. But the number of recoveries out-distance active cases as of Thursday by a 24,487-to-18,148.

Louisiana

Confirmed COVID-19 cases in DeSoto Parish, La., rose to 223 with 14 deaths as of noon Thursday, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

In Caddo Parish the number of confirmed cases rose to 1,800 with 140 deaths attributed to COVID-19. In Bossier Parish there were 324 confirmed cases and 22 deaths reported by the state.

Statewide in Louisiana there have been 32,662 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 2,315 deaths. Wednesday's reported reflected another 612 cases and another 34 deaths compared to Tuesday's report.

Confirmed COVID-19 cases in DeSoto Parish, La., rose to 223 with 14 deaths as of noon Thursday, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The number of cases in Logansport jumped to 26.

In Caddo Parish the number of confirmed cases rose to 1,818 with 143 deaths attributed to COVID-19. In Bossier Parish there were 327 confirmed cases and 22 deaths reported by the state.

Statewide in Louisiana, there were 33,489 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported on Thursday, an increase of 827 from Wednesday's report with an additional 36 deaths in the state.
