COVID-19/coronavirus cases continue upward trend

Texas reports 8,262 cases, 154 deaths; Louisiana cases jump to 16,284 with 582 deaths

Shelby County Office of Emergency Management was notified by Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) of another positive confirmed case of COVID-19 bringing the total case count for Shelby County to 13, Shelby County Judge Allison Harbison announced late Tuesday morning.

Most of these cases have been reported by DSHS to have no travel history thus meaning they contracted it because of community spread.

According to DSHS reporting, four of these 13 cases are hospitalized, Harbison said.

In Nacogdoches County the number of confirmed cases reported on Tuesday stood at 21. San Augustine County has four confirmed cases, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services on Tuesday.

Statewide in Texas, the number of confirmed cases increased to 8,262 with 154 fatalities as of Tuesday noon's updated report.

The Harris County area around Houston continued to lead the state with 1,809 confirmed cases while Dallas had 1,155 on Tuesday.

In Northwest Louisiana, DeSoto Parish reported cases 89 confirmed cases and six deaths. In Caddo Parish health officials reported 756 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 26 deaths.

Bossier Parish reported 146 confirmed cases and four deaths as of Tuesday, officials said.

Orleans Parish cases continue to lead Louisiana with 4,942 cases confirmed as of Tuesday along with 185 deaths.

Louisiana

In Louisiana there were more than 1,400 additional cases reported Tuesday as the confirmed case count rose to 16,284 on Tuesday. Louisiana's death count attributed to COVID-19 rose to 70 the day before to 582 on Tuesday.
