Shelby County Cancer Fund sets Saturday Weekend Warriors event
The Shelby County Cancer Fund has scheduled its first Weekend Warrior event for 3-8 p.m., Saturday, June 1 on the Center Square, with plans to make it an annual event.
Organizers said the event, sponsored by Shelby Saving Savings Bank, will include a time for fun, food and reflection. Stacy O'Rear said the public is invited to come and go at the event and to join in the fight against cancer while helping out local families impacted by it.
She said the term “Weekend Warriors,” is being used to reinforce the battle that Shelby County residents have gone through in dealing with cancer.
“We will forever support, honor and remember all of our Shelby County folks that have fought the cancer beast,” O'Rear said. “We'll have an EVER TREE, that we want to flood with ribbons in order for our Shelby County Warriors to know that we will nEVER let them be forgotten.”
Among activities planned are a washer pitching contest, along with a walk and run.
“We'll also be selling food, t-shirts, have face painting and various raffles,” O'Rear said. Ribbons and cards for the EVER TREE will be $5 per set.
